I'm Stewart Whiting. I'm a second year PhD candidate at the University of Glasgow. I'm in the
Information Retrieval (IR) research group in the School of Computing
Science.
I research in many areas of IR, particularly in aspects of
temporal IR and crowdsourcing for interactive IR evaluation. I have
diverse interests including the use of context, particularly in
personal collection search.
I am supervised by Professor Joemon Jose. I collaborate on a lot
of work with other the other folk in the Glasgow IR Group,
including: Guido Zuccon, Kim
Leelanupab, Yashar Moshfeghi and Iraklis
Klampanos.
Prior to starting a PhD I graduated first class in undergraduate
Computing Science combined with Business and Management at
Glasgow.
Temporal IR Interests
Temporal IR has many diverse facets. It is widely acknowledge that
time is important in retrieval, yet there is still much scope for
development in its use. At the moment I am interested particularly
in how terms rise and fall in occurrence over time and how this can
be incorporated into retrieval techniques.
